Mahre Accepts Top Spot at Pacific Northwest Ski Association

8.12.2008

The Pacific Northwest Ski Association, a division of the United States Ski Association announced today that Paul Mahre has been named to take over from Ingrid Simonson as the organizations Executive Director.  Paul will assume the Northwest’s top post effective September 1, 2008.

Paul F. Mahre, a native of the Pacific Northwest and former US Ski Team Athlete, grew up at the famed White Pass Ski Area on the secluded Highway 12 in Washington State along with his brothers Dave Jr., Chris, Phil, Steve and sisters Kathee, Jackie, Toots and Ruth.  The Mahre Family has long been dedicated to the sport of alpine skiing and have individually and collectively given a tremendous amount back for the benefit of future skiers and for the good of the sport.

In addition to Paul’s experience with the US Ski Team, he has also had valuable experiences as a Club Program Director and Coach, in Ski Area Management and Event Production and is a highly respected FIS Technical Delegate (TD).

“We are extremely pleased to have Paul on board as Executive Director to work with and carry out the strategies developed by our Board of Directors” commented PNSA President, Curtis Shuck.  “Paul brings a wealth of experience, strong ties and a unique perspective to taking our sport to the next level in the Northwest and taking the Northwest to the next level in our nation!  Paul’s appointment was a unanimous decision by the entire PNSA Board.”

About the Process:

After Ingrid Simonson announced her retirement this past April,, the PNSA Board set about the task of finding her replacement…and not an easy task at that.

The Board established clear criteria and a comprehensive Job Description.  A Search Committee was appointed to make a recommendation to the Board.  Roger Root, a long time PNSA “Heavy Lifter”, and current Board Secretary accepted the position of Chairman of the Search Committee.  The Committee reviewed a large number of resumes and interviewed several extremely qualified and submitted their choice to the Board of Directors.  The entire PNSA Board of Directors confirmed the Search Committee’s recommendation and Paul officially accepted the position this past week.

“This is an exciting new chapter for PNSA” said PNSA Vice President, Rob Crick.  “We are looking forward to a bright future and to working with Paul for many years to come.”
